Trek through the jungle of Bukit Timah and Central Catchment Nature Reserves
It’s a must to take the mosquito repellant and wear the right gear for a mini adventure that you can only experience in the tropics.
- Trek through the jungle of Bukit Timah Reserve via well-marked paths and look out for exotic birds, butterflies, monkeys, squirrels and flying lemurs, as well as unique plant life like insect-eating pitcher plant.
- Get up close and personal to more than 840 flowering plants and over 500 species of animals. The most commonly encountered are the Long-tailed Macaques or monkeys, and for the nth time: DO NOT FEED THE MONKEYS!
- Hike at the Bukit Timah Hill, Singapore’s highest point at 164 metres above sea level.
- Go on a tour with a volunteer guide to see and learn more about the forest.
- Have fun Mountain Biking in the 6km mountain biking trail around the Reserve's boundary.
- Take the challenge and go Rock climbing at the Reserve boundary.
Off you go to Labrador Park
So where are the labradors? OK, there aren’t any. But there is still plenty for dog lovers and nature lovers alike. Labrador Park is a rocky sea-cliff on the mainland that is accessible to the public and offers 10 hectares of coastal secondary vegetation in a gazetted Nature Reserve.
- Marvel at the picturesque view of the sea.
- Find a rich variety of wildlife, such as the White-crusted Laughing Thrush, the Yellow-vented Bulbul and the regal White-bellied Sea Eagle.
- Explore the underground complexes used during World War II for the storage of ammunition and supplies.
Nature Walk at Southern Ridges
For lovers of the outdoor walk, this truly is a riveting experience. The Southern Ridges are a 9-km chain of hills stretching from Mount Faber Park through Telok Blangah Hill Park to Kent Ridge Park, each seamlessly linked by foot trails and connection bridges. Follow this itinerary:
- Kick start your expedition with a short walk through the secondary forests of Marang Trail to Mount Faber Park.
- At Henderson Waves, an undulating bridge sits high across Henderson Road and connects Mount Faber Park to Telok Blangah Hill Park. The bridge is also Singapore tallest bridge.
- From there, trek across Telok Blangah Hill Park through the Hilltop Walk.
- Brush past the thick canopy of trees as you continue along the raised walkways of the Forest Walk.
- A tilted arch like an opened leaf welcomes you at Alexandra Arch. It's an 80m long bridge that featured a curved deck. At the end of the Alexandra Arch, there is a path lined with flowering plants which leads to the HortPark. The Horticulture Park was built at a cost of S$13 million, it featured 20 attractive theme gardens spread over 23 hectares.
- Finally, the Canopy Walk brings you through Kent Ridge Park’s rich flora and fauna with an elevated walkway.
