You could easily miss this little restaurant unless you're looking for it. Dwarfed by the neighboring markets and shops, De Bamboo Express Restaurant & Bakery, is a gem to those who discover it. Fast-food style interiors give it a casual air, where you can feast on all the Chinese you can dream of. There are no restrictions–pork, beef, lamb, chicken, seafood, soups, veggies and more. Indian foodies can have a ball too—there are lots of curries to choose from. Accompaniments include dal or rice of your choice, so fill up! The fizzes and desserts are none too fancy, but quite satisfying.

Kampuchea
Website Details  Map
78 Rivington Street
Kampuchea serves Cambodian fare which has been slightly altered to suit western tastes. The menu includes the Cambodian version of sandwiches which are called Num Pang. These are essentially baguettes served with unusual fillers which have a distinct Asian twist, such as House Cured Bacon, Grilled Thai and Chinese eggplant, and Fried Plantains. The Num Pang with Fried Plantains is quite delicious and is highly recommended. Also available on the menu is the Cambodian version of the Asian noodle soup called Katiev. Notable mentions are the Duroc Pork Katiev and the Oxtail Stew. Though some of the soups are served cold and are an acquired taste.

Tangra Masala
Details  Map
8709 Grand Avenue
For those who follow the Islamic dietary regime, this is the place you can eat without reservation, for the meat is Halal. The clientèle is mostly Indian, given the Chinese preparations that are hot and spicy. A typical meal includes items like Chicken Corn Soup, or Chicken Pakoras, a Manchurian Tiger Prawn Platter, a Rosewater Ice-cream, and a Snapple Iced Tea. No, this is not authentic Chinese food, but the Indian version, which is well-loved and popular among the folks from the sub-continent. The atmosphere is noisy and the service very quick, but be prepared to wait for a table, especially on weekends, when it fills up pretty fast.
