Madre's offers Puerto Rican cuisine, in a fantastically fairy-like dining room with flowing fabrics, ornate chairs, crystal chandeliers and, crisp white table linen; all creating a rather fascinating interior. Owned by superstar Jennifer Lopez as homage to her Puerto Rican lineage, the restaurant serves dishes made from recipes handed down to her by her grandmother. You can dig into specialties, such as Arroz Con Pollo, Chuleta de Cerdo al Ajillo and Jenny from the block's favorite Ropa Vieja.

The Mercedes Grille is located right next to the beach. The dog friendly patio is popular with celebs and locals who enjoy drinking mojitos and margaritas while watching colorful sunsets. Mercedes serves a blend of Cuban, Caribbean and Latin fusion cuisine with an American Grill influence. Meals are fresh and healthy with tasty spices and sauces. Excellent choices include the spicy jerk chicken and mango chutney enchiladas, crab & artichoke enchiladas and the stuffed corn meal raisin chicken breast topped with jerk plum sauce. There is a happy hour, full bar with specialty drinks and a weekend brunch.

When Angelenos are in the mood for Cuban food, they almost always think of this place. The casual eatery serves up hearty portions of the most succulent and authentic Cuban food around. The regulars come here for the famous garlic-marinated roast chicken and roast pork—both are worth dying for, but make sure you bring the breath mints! Also try the black bean soup, and the strong Cuban coffee. Beer and wine are served as well (by the glass only). Additional locations are at Culver City, Los Angeles and Encino. Call for hours.
