Located in the Mondrian Los Angeles, decorated in white and overlooking the city, this elegant restaurant has one of the most dazzling views in town. The patio section is dominated by trees in giant pots and a poolside across from the white-hot Sky Bar. The restaurant serves Asian and Cuban-influenced food, most of it is marinated in spicy oils like chili oil, sesame oil and citrus oil. It offers seafood, steak, tempura dishes and delicious spring rolls. Also, try its Thai-influenced salad. The portions are huge and filling. The bar has an attractive wine list.

Take a seat on the large wall-to-wall couch, before a tiny table and feast on some excellent Vietnamese food at Benley. Besides the ubiquitous pho, a traditional meat-and-noodle soup, the place is adept at creating and serving up steaming plates of spring and pork egg rolls, vermicelli and tofu steak, thus banishing any possible dissatisfaction caused by its decrepit location. On the contrary, the cassava cake at dessert will leave you contemplating a comeback. The owners have even gone through the trouble to jazz up the bathroom with lights and pebbles. Come and find out why diners are raving about the place; be forewarned, you will get addicted!

The Canton Low Restaurant is always a bit crowded, this restaurant specializes in Mandarin, Szechuan and Cantonese dishes. You don't have to already be familiar with Chinese and Asian palates before visiting to recognize the superior quality of this food. There's a large banquet room where various business and civic groups like to meet. Most guests choose to sit at one of the many tables in the main restaurant area. While you are free to dress a bit casually, be aware that the lunch crowd often arrives in suits since they've just come from work. Alcohol is not served.

Chameli is truly an elegant and sophisticated restaurant. You'll see a number of entrees on the menu that are most familiar to those in northern India. House specialties include Saag Paneer (a curry dish with mustard greens covered with fresh cheese) and Baingan Bharta (curried eggplant) with Ginger Naan (flatbread) as an accompaniment. Beverages available include beer, wine, tea, lassi and soft drinks.

If the thought of Chinese food makes your mouth water, then a visit the Chinese Gourmet Express, it is sure to leave you with a satisfying experience. With several branches across the country, this one is located at the Paseo Colorado. The well designed menu comprises signature dishes like Orange Flavored Chicken and Chicken with Black Bean Sauce, and traditional ones like barbecue pork and beef with broccoli. Certain exotic dishes also line the menu. The egg rolls are for the ones in a hurry, while assorted steamy vegetables are for the vegetarians. Other popular choices include the Family Value Meal. The only problem though is the wait for a seat inside.

Many diners opt for one of the lunch specials, which combine sushi and tempura, or sashimi and tempura. Others prefer the sushi and teriyaki combination. The salmon dishes are also popular; the spicy Salmon Teriyaki is a favorite of many. Seating is available at the large sushi bar, in booths or at regular tables. Be sure your server remembers to serve you the restaurant's free Korean Pancake Appetizer—it's excellent. Sake, other wines, beer and soft drinks are all on the menu.

Try the spicy tuna roll or a tasty rainbow roll made with some of the freshest fish in the city. Right on the corner of Wilshire and Yale, this place is centrally located to be considered the perfect neighborhood hangout. The crowd is full of locals who don't want to pose, but just want a good roll in a friendly atmosphere.

House of Vege is a one-of-a-kind restaurant that serves vegetarian Chinese cuisine in a creative and delicious way. If you are a vegetarian you will feel heaven. And meat eaters will also be happy. Where else can you get items like Vegetarian Squid with Barbecue Sauce, Sweet and Sour Pork, Kung Pao Shrimp, Deep Fried House Chicken with Sesame, Deep Fried Ribs and Vegetarian Crispy Salty Chicken. All of 'meat' is made from Tofu and vegetables and it tastes just like the real thing. It offers several lunch specials at great prices. No alcohol is served, but soft drinks and Chinese tea are available.

Since first opening their doors in 1988, the Jay Bharat Restaurant in Artesia has been supplying the Southland with distinct specialties from the Indian region of Gujarati. A favorite amongst frequent visitors are the different varieties of Thali, a tray containing small servings of rice, lentils, yogurt, vegetables and chutney in individual dishes. The restaurant also specializes in Indian candy such as the fudge-like burfee or balushahi, which is similar to a cookie. If you cant get to Artesia or even California for that matter, Jay Bharat offers all of their snacks and sweets on their website.

Jinpachi isn't romantic or comfortable as far as the ambiance goes. But when the food arrives, you will be comforted. Artistic plates of unagi and nigiri do the rounds as patrons dig in gleefully. Fresh seafood is the specialty here. Wrap it all up with fruit soups and chocolate soufflés. And yes, the prices are high, but it's all worth it.
